Spawn
Nobody knows where the Spawn came from, but when they appeared
it seemed like the human race had finally met its Nemesis. These
rapacious, fast breeding aliens attacked human colonies and devoured
them. Their ability to genetically mutate new warriors that would
willingly die for the sake of the hive struck fear in every human
heart.
The Spawn often rely on the ability to overwhelm their enemies,
but they are not stupid or tactically inept. They will use their
specialised units to terrorise or trap the enemy until the moment
is right to deal the final blow.
QUEEN
The
Queen is a rapacious, rapid breeding machine that can consume corpses
and lay eggs. The eggs will rapidly grow and hatch into one of the
other Spawn units. The unit hatched is determined at random, but
each type of progeny has its uses. The Queen is tough and has a
devastating bite capable of destroying solid walls, but she should
be protected from enemy attack as much as possible.
Strengths: lays eggs to generate new Spawn units,
very powerful bite
Weaknesses: large and slow moving, vulnerable
to ranged combat, limited vision
DRONE
The
Drone is a very fast and agile killing machine. It will run towards
its target and attack with its large jaws, made all the more lethal
by excretions of acidic saliva capable of penetrating armour. It
is relatively well armoured and tough for a Spawn unit, but needs
to surprise its victims at close range to be sure of a kill.
Strengths: fast moving, powerful bite, can walk
freely over goo
Weaknesses: vulnerable at range, limited vision
SPLATTER
The
Splatter is little more than a walking bomb. Its only purpose in
life is to find enemy units, rush towards them and explode. It will
gladly sacrifice itself for the good of the Spawn hive. Splatters
need to be deployed with care because they can be dangerous to other
members of the Spawn brood. They can be devastating when exploded
in the midst of a group of low armoured units.
Strengths: good for attacking clusters of enemy
units
Weaknesses: vulnerable at range, almost blind
GOO SPITTER
The
Goo Spitter fires a bouncing, gooey blob that explodes on impact,
covering the surrounding area with acidic goo. Any units caught
in the goo are immobilised, and will suffer some minor damage from
the acid. Fortunately for its victims the acid content of the goo
causes it to decay and dissipate after a short period of time. Drones
are genetically adapted to run over goo without getting trapped,
and flying units are also unaffected by goo. The Goo Spitter will
die after it has released its limited supply of gooballs, but it
will have served the collective well during its limited existence.
Strengths: goo can trap and block enemy units
for gaining tactical advantage
Weaknesses: limited range, dies when out of ammunition
BUZZER
The
buzzer is a small winged drone that can move rapidly and squeeze
through windows. It can attack with its fangs, but is quite weak
compared to other aliens. It can be used to scout enemy positions
and pick off isolated enemy units. As with drones, the Buzzer will
need to avoid enemy fire before going in for the kill.
Strengths: small and fast, can squeeze through
window frames
Weaknesses: weak attack, close combat only, vulnerable
at close range
SPIKER
The
Spiker was genetically adapted to respond to the Machina threat,
and is the only Spawn unit with ranged combat ability. The acid
filled spikes propelled from its tail are powerful and effective
against armoured units. It cannot fire very rapidly and is best
used in supporting combined attacks at medium range. Once a Spiker
has discharged all its Spikes it will die, having fulfilled its
only purpose in life.
Strengths: the only Spawn unit with a ranged
combat weapon
Weaknesses: dies when out of ammunition, slow
firing
